April, 3-6 - SILECS first spring school
The Labex is the proud sponsor of a « Spring School » organised jointly by the Grid5000 (distributed systems) and FIT (networks) platforms communities that will take place on the Sophia@Tech campus (Forum building) from April 3 to April 6. An important part of the programme is dedicated to hands-on sessions to gain insight into the different platforms (Grid500, IoTLab, R2Lab and CortexLab) and get advanced Lab sessions on the platform of your choice. PhD fellows are encouraged to participate to this school.

June, 25-26 - ROBOT PACA 2018
This first workshop on robotics in the PACA region is part of an overall initiative to structure the local activity in this field in order to enhance its external visibility, to foster collaborations between academics, industrials and users, to promote and share the ressources that could be useful, to identify the promising topics in the region and to possibly set-up a curriculum on robotics.

Best student paper for LEAT PhD fellow Van Hieu NGuyen The paper "Wireless interrogation of small animal phantoms with a miniature implanted UHF RFID tag" of the PhD student Van Hieu Nguyen won the Best Student Paper award at IEEE Conference on Antenna Measurements and Applications 2017 held on December 4-6 in Japan. This work is the result of a collaboration between LEAT, Inria and TIRO-MATOs team (UCA/CEA/BIAM) proudly powered by Labex UCN@Sophia.

Thesis Defenses. Congratulations to Florian Lugou who defended his Labex funded thesis "Environments for Analyzing the Security of Smart Objects" on February, 8th (supervisors: Ludovic Apvrille, LTCI and Aurélien Francillon, EURECOM).
Akimu Dihissou defense will come next on April, 6th under the supervision of Robert Staraj (LEAT) and Raymond Knopp (EURECOM)

RISE Academy first series of seminars Forum Numerica is a series of seminars that opened on Thursday March 22 with Raja Kali (University of Arkansas) who gave a talk on "Applying Network Tools to understand Foreign Aid Performance". Next session will be announced shortly on the Academy website. Stay connected!

Meddays 2018 The 6th edition of the Meddays was held on Feb12-14. Thanks to the great involvement of professors and researchers, 32 students from ICT schools and Universities of the Mediterranean basin (Italy, Greece, Morocco, Lebanon and Tunisia) discovered with enthousiasm the activities as well as the education and research opportunities offered by the SophiaTech Campus. For the first time this year, the local TV France 3 Côte d'Azur covered the event, offering the promise of a bright future for this initiative!


Visiting Researcher

This summer, the Labex will welcome Tahiry Razafindralambo (Univ. La Réunion). He will work within COATI team.

Tahiry Razafindralambo received his MSc in applied statistics and computer science from the university of Antananarivo in 2001 and his PhD degree in Computer Science from the INSA Lyon in 2007. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Reunion Island. His research interests are mainly focused on distributed algorithms and protocols design for wireless networks and performance evaluation. He is involved in many organization and program committees of national and international conferences such as DCOSS, MASS, PE-WASUN, MSWIM, PIMRC, ICC and he is the principal investigator of many national and international projects.

In order to give users a more friendly interface and a better understanding of their exposure to surrounding electromagnetic waves, the team of Arnaud Legout (Inria) has invented a new measure unit, the e-score. The dBm measure remains available for expert users. Get now the app on Google Play.

Inria 2018-2022 Strategic Plan Inria presents its scientific strategy for the upcoming five-year period. Its purpose is to describe important research directions, to identify important societal expectations that impact the scientific activities of Inria, and finally to present a set of challenges taken up by Inria in the next five years. It puts the spotlight on several issues at the heart of Inria concerns, as the next generation of computer systems, the augmented intelligence, the trust within a connected world, the understanding of natural processes and, in a more general way, a human-centered vision of the digital world.  Read more...
